Crown molding has given headaches to generations of finish carpenters. The problem has nothing to do with intelligence: it’s just that the process isn’t intuitive. Traditional methods ask a woodworker to turn everything upside down and back to front, and then imagine reverse compound angles. Plus, one is usually making some tricky cuts on a really short miter saw table, so nothing is properly supported, or square.

TigerStop reduces this challenging jobsite task to a few very simple, logical steps. Their system does the calculating for us, and the results are impressive. With very little training, even a new crewmember can consistently deliver workshop quality precision – right on the jobsite.

TigerStop’s simple and intuitive portable solution, SawGear®, is an automated fence for a compound miter saw that was designed to transport easily, and to set up quickly on site. Just think how much time and incorrectly cut materials can be saved when a crew no longer has to physically measure every single piece of molding. SawGear also eliminates setting up one of those awkward auxiliary fences with a C-clamp and wood block stop, and there’s no need to position rollers and adjust their heights to support long parts. For the first time, it lets a woodworker enjoy true automation in a jobsite environment.

Reliable and precise, SawGear is all about saving money – it trims completion times by up to 35%! It’s designed to set up in about two minutes on the jobsite, and delivers repeatability all day long. The stop is so accurate that re-cuts are virtually eliminated. The company’s slogan is “Don't measure, don't mark, just cut”. Not only is it extremely portable, it’s also rugged enough for any jobsite.

Here’s how it works.

SawGear is built around a simple and intuitive interactive keypad. To set the stop, all the operator needs to do is tap in a length (fractions or decimals are ok) and the stop travels to that spot – accurate to .008 in. For crown and other complex moldings, SawGear also uses Crown+MiterPro™ software that calculates all the angles and lengths, so your crew isn’t tied up doing complicated arithmetic and geometry on every single cut.  That makes it not only possible, but relatively easy for the new guy to install crown molding with minimal training. It also means that a woodshop can take on and complete more crown molding jobs, because SawGear is so much faster than the old manual method. You can now offer a crown upgrade with every kitchen sold.

Last year, SawGear added jobsite tables to its product line. They’re available in 8, 12 and 16‐foot working lengths, and users can also add in‐feed tables made to customized lengths, for added convenience.

“With the tables to support long materials throughout their length, a woodworker is guaranteed accurate cuts every time,” says company founder and President, Spencer Dick. “That, and the Crown+MiterPro software, helps an installer virtually eliminate the potential for human error. The jobsite crew increases the yield from raw materials at the same time that it’s increasing the accuracy and quality of the work being done.”

The new tables use a hinge system and tripod supports, making them easily transportable, simple to level and quick to set‐up and break down. Plus, they can be can be set up on either side of the saw, which can really accommodate physical restrictions on the jobsite. The keypad can store up to a hundred cut dimensions, and includes an anti‐theft feature which makes the tool useless to thieves. It also has an anti‐pinch safety system.

SawGear is made by TigerStop, LLC, a global leader in automated stop/gauge and pusher systems. Headquartered in Washington State, TigerStop is a U.S. manufacturer of products for the construction, furniture, cabinet, electronics, plastics and metalworking industries. SawGear and TigerStop products easily integrate with existing equipment, to help optimize and improve the accuracy of all lineal cutting processes.
